Angelina Jolie may have fuelled a boom in families wanting an Ethiopian child. Yet thanks to opportunistic adoption agents and zero regulations, most African adoptions dont have a Hollywood ending.
This is Tegene, hes a little abandoned child, says the presenter on Christian World Adoptions DVD catalogue of orphans. On the other side of the world, Lisa Boe fell in love. She adopted Tegene who one day identified his real mom in a photograph. I would have never brought home a child that had a mom, never, she cries. Children have become Ethiopias latest export. A lack of regulation and the $100 million annual revenue, has resulted in a completely corrupt adoption industry. Harvesting, an illegal process in which children are actively sought from their parents, is commonplace. The parents dont understand that the children are now legally someone elses, explains a former worker at CWA. Most agencies tell the parents theyll receive regular updates on their children. Yet mothers of children like Tegene, say they have heard nothing for years As a mother, not to be able to know my kids situation hurts me so much. In small-town USA, Lisa Boe gives Tegene, now Zane, his daily medications. Hes going blind in one eye, has cerebral palsy and a cyst on his brain. The Christian adoption agency gave Tegene a perfect bill of health.

A great way to …
A great way to spread the Word of the Lord: adopt orphan children from a poor Muslim country and raise them as God-fearing Christians…
Why must families …
Why must families adopt from other countries over the world when there are millions of hungry boys and girls in their own back yards? Its like getting a new toy or something. You gotta show off this new thing you’ve got.
second bit of music …
second bit of music is in american beauty also though
its moby dont know …
its moby dont know the name though
This is NOT the …
This is NOT the Theme from american beauty I think its a radiohead or Moby song?
WHAT IS THE NAME OF …
WHAT IS THE NAME OF THE SONGDONG?
Its prefered that …
Its prefered that the “orphan” stay in their motherland rather than be sexually abused by sick westerners who prey on little children. Your intention maybe good but your husband might be fondling that little child behind your back. So I say you have not done any favor for our East African children, all you done is have this child lose their roots, their black and african root. You got him confused of what he/she is bc your most likely white and then you have his mom starving somewhere and lost.
Children should …
Children should always be adopted by people of same ethnic or cultural background.
They’re ignorant …
They’re ignorant word actually, because I don’t live with Irish or Scottish people, so what in the world would I know about them, particularly whether the most crass stereotypes about them hold any water.
lol i’m not irish …
lol i’m not irish or scottish, so those are empty words.
At least they’re …
At least they’re not alcoholic cultist terrorists like all the Irish are, or low IQ drug addicts like all the Scots.
they do the same …
they do the same thing over here as well. but african americans are the worse since they have a hand out mentality. black people in other parts of the world are at least willing to try
God bless these …
God bless these people! Saving humanity , one soul at a time…
“faith” alone can’t …
“faith” alone can’t bridge cultural divide. I hope they are ready for questions and stares and racism.
Hopefully they raise them in a multicutural city to ease the transition for the children.
There is something wrong about this excessive children export though. These christian organizations need to ask themselves if they’re doing the right thing.
Also kids are only …
Also kids are only allowed to stay in orphanages until they are 14 after that they are on their own so many are turned out to the streets to either beg or prostitute themselves which only propigates poverty and the number of people living with HIV. These kids are so full of light and hope and faith. We CAN NOT abandon them b/c of fear or inconvenience or apathy. If you don’t care b/c of racist ideals, then I know I won’t change your attitude towards the kids but don’t hate on adoption.
for us to adopt …
for us to adopt from the U.S it was going to cost $57,000. Our adoption from ET cost $23,000 plus the trip to Africa. And I agree the answer to the problem in ET isn’t adoption alone. The average yearly income is $100.00 but a small can of formula costs nearly $10.00 so how can a mother possibly feed her baby if she can’t breastfeed because of starvation?? she can’t – hence she brings the child to an orphanage in the hopes that at least it will be fed regularly.
Also don’t think …
Also don’t think that the only people adopting from Ethiopia are white couples! I know of several African American couples that have adopted internationally b/c of the reasons I mentioned before hand. So if you want to see more people adopting domestically then write to your senators and congressmen and push for a change in the U.S adoption laws. If you want to see corruption then look at the U.S government! All of the fees paid for our adoption went to HOMELAND SECURITY!
If you don’t know …
If you don’t know all the facts and you haven’t been to Africa to see for yourself the situation surrounding these kids then keep your mouth shut. Our wait to get our son was 19 months!!! Now if that sounds like someone who just placed an order and went and picked up some kid then think again. The government of ET is VERY strict and anytime they here about some corruption they shut down adoptions and investigate. Many of our friends have had to wait 1/2 a year to have their cases be reopened.
Also, I people …
Also, I people don’t adopt “to feel good about themselves”. This is absurd and hurtful. Adoption isn’t a passing fancy it changes not only our lives but that of a child as well. NO ONE would want to make these children have to go through more trauma then they already have. Also I personally offered to pay a monthly stipend for a birth mother to be able to keep her son and she declined and did not want the child back.
dumb liberal …
dumb liberal importing the third world
As an adoptive …
As an adoptive mother of a boy from Ethiopia I think someone on here needs to have a first hand opinion on this topic. First off, there are 4.5 million orphans in Ethiopia and 500,000 in the U.S. I know an orphan is an orphan and I want every child to have a loving family but for a country less than 2 X’s the size of TX to have MILLIONS of orphans shows the severity of the situation in Africa. U.S adoption is MORE expensive and takes longer and has MUCH more risk then international adoption.
Because I wanted to …
Because I wanted to hear you say it, so that everyone could see what an idiot you are stereotyping people you’ve never lived with while living on a completely different continent.
sad thing is these …
sad thing is these naive dumbshits are bringing their poverty into our nations.
lol morons.
lol morons.
why don’t you look …
why don’t you look in my profile, because it clearly says england
